The Issue facing Antarctica Today
The Issue: The issue we are studying for Antarctica, is the issue of pollution: oil pollution and Global-warming, which is its effect. All this oil and gas pollution pierces a hole through the ozone layer, opening a fresh hole where harmful ultra violet light gets into the earth's atmosphere. The ozone layer prevents harmful rays and sunlight to come into the earth's atmosphere, but with so much pollution, the layer can no longer stay as a protector. Every year, the pollution levels rise, and before we know it, our sunlight protection will be gone.
More pollution = More harmful ultra violet light = Global-warming = Ice from the South Pole to melt = Higher sea levels. One thing can change a lot of things.

Causes of Issue: Well-known oil companies cause this issue of oil spills. While their transporting ship carries all their oil around, the ships leave behind a trail of oil, without even knowing it. Oil Companies need to realise what this does to the environment. They need to ensure that the oil (both perserved and running their ship) are sealed and are safe so it won't leak.
- Rania Tabunot
Effects of Issue: Oil Companies never purposely spill oil. These companies want to ensure their reputation is still high- even if they have oil leaks in the purest continent of the world. With so much oil around the place, it is impossible that sea creatures in that area will live. Creatures such as seal/ sea lions will die from this oil. Oil causes their fur to tangle and they can no longer swim anymore. Not only does oil cause disability to swim for animals, but also poisoning. Oil lasts for a very long time in the water if not drained. All of this pollution leads to Global-warming.
